Dosage and Administration:  Every 6 hours

Premature and full term infants less than 2 week (25mg/kg BW/day)

Full term infants over 2 weeks (50mg/kg BW/day)

Below 6 months (1.25 to 2.5mL (1/4 – ½ tsp))

6 to 12 months (2.5 to 5mL (1/2 – 1 tsp))

1 to 3 years (5 – 7.5mL (1 -1½ tsp))

3 to 6 years (7.5mL – 10mL (1 ½ - 2 tsp))

6 to 12 years (10 - 15mL (2-3 tsp))

Or as prescribed by a physician.

Formulation:

Each 5 mL (1 teaspoonful) contains: 125 mg Chloramphenicol (as the Palmitate)

WARNING: Serious and fatal blood dyscrasias (aplastic anemia, hypoplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and granulocytopenia) are known to occur during or following both short-term and prolonged therapy with Chloramphenicol. There have been reports of aplastic anemia which later terminated in leukemia. It is essential that adequate blood studies be made during treatment.
